Last week I talked about using wallpaper in your laundry room and the newfound appreciation for this once overlooked space.
I thought huh, why not go down the rabbit hole and talk about all of the fun you can have in the laundry room?!
Laundry rooms have come a long way…
I think back to our laundry room in my parent’s house and it was sandwiched in-between our kitchen and my parent’s bathroom. This “room” was tiny and you couldn’t move if another person was in there with you. It had two doors so I guess I have to call it a room.
Back then, this room had a washer/dryer, cleaning supplies and a basket that was typically filled with clean clothes that we all avoided for week (there were 6 of us, who wants to deal with all of that?) However, there was nothing, I repeat NOTHING decorative in that room.
But now…things have changed in the world of laundry rooms.
Dark & Moody anyone?
Color Explosion!
Baby Blue
Pretty in Pink
Cozy Farmhouse
You may be wondering, how do I decorate my laundry room?
Tackling your laundry room will vary depending on the level of construction needed in your space.
For the most part these are the items that you want to focus on to make your dream laundry room.
Let’s start with storage, if you want a fabulous laundry room cabinetry or shelving is KEY!
This is great place to choose a fun color like a blue or green cabinet color because…why the hell not?!
Once you have cabinets decided on you may want to add countertop material for folding clothes and a sink to rinse things off prior to being washed.
Next, your have some type of lighting fixture in this room. I recommend finding a unique lighting fixture preferably a flush/semi flush mounted one.
Then, you’ll want to find baskets for your clean clothes to transport in.
While you’re getting those baskets find some jars or containers to hold laundry detergent, dryer balls, or dryer sheets. These can be stored in the cabinets but if you want to make things extra pretty the jars are great!
You may need to update your flooring, a laundry room can be a pretty hard working room with the potential of water spills so I would find a tile.
Lastly, it’s time to decorate!
Find a bold wallpaper or unique wall pain color, a colorful area rug, area work, and fresh flowers to finish the look.
