Hardwood – Love it or Leave it?

Over the past 10 years, LVP waterproof flooring has taken over the flooring industry.

What’s not to love?

-Waterproof

-Durability

-Price

Does this mean that the beautiful hardwoods in your home are out of style?

My theory is that everything in life is cyclical and as most anything trends come and trends go.

While I love LVP for it’s many benefits, nothing will ever beat the real thing and the natural beauty of hardwood is incomparable to any LVP.

Similar to marble, there is a depth that can’t be found in an imitation marble looking porcelain tile. For some it makes no difference for others the real thing is a necessity.

People ask well doesn’t hardwood scratch or indent? The answer is of course it does so you must accept that your furniture, children, pets and shoes can/will damage your hardwood floors.

However, there are ways to minimize the level of wear and tear your flooring endures.

3 Ways to protect your hardwood flooring:

-No Shoe Policy: People do not realize the amount of dirt, sand, and small rocks that accumulate on our shoes. Do your floors a favor and take your shoes off at the door.

-Oak or Hickory: These two species are very durable and feature a ton of natural grain which is mask scratches/indentations.

-Furniture Pads: These are essential to protect not just hardwood but flooring in general

-Avoid Dark Colors: While I love the look of dark brown or even black floor, you will see EVERYTHING and you’ll be cleaning the floor constantly.

All in all, I’m a hardwood girl (I’d take solid or engineered) and that won’t be changing anytime soon.

What about you? Are you a hardwood purist?
