Today we’re heating things up and talking about…FIREPLACES!
Fireplaces are one of my favorite architectural details because not only are they functional, they are beautiful. I also love how fireplaces are a gathering spot for family and friends.
The great thing about fireplaces is that there are so many ways to design them.
Below are the different parts of a typical fireplace.
Mantles
Mantles can vary in materials from wood, stone and MDF
Fireplace Surround
-Mosaic Tile
These tiles are available in various sizes, shapes, and colors. You can also find options that are created of porcelain or natural stone. Mosaics add detail and interest to your fireplace.
-Brick
-Porcelain Slabs
More and more tile companies are creating large porcelain slabs as an alternative to quartz. These pieces can be 5 foot by 10 foot, which is perfect for creating a seamless look.
-Stone
-Limestone
Hearth
The hearth is the floor of the fireplace. Sometimes they are flat, sometimes they are raised or even designed as a built in bench for cozy seating.
