Accent Walls!

There is a huge trend happening right now where homes are built or renovated to have a more open concept.

Make me think of a funny episode of South Park that is all about renovations.

Many people are choosing to open up their homes to allow for easy flow and conversation from room to room. This is also great for those with small children, they can keep an eye on the kids in the living room while they’re in the kitchen.

While I love open concept spaces, this does eliminate the opportunity for certain furniture pieces or to hang certain art pieces.

Open concept can especially difficult if you’re looking to incorporate an accent wall in your home.

Not to fret, there are many ways that you can address your walls whether you have an open floor plan or not.

We are going to go through some great options.

  1. Paneled Walls

Adding panels to your walls and painting them to match or in a fun color is a great way to add texture and interest on your walls.

2) Wine Wall?

Yes, you read that correctly. A WINE WALL!

If you are a wine drinker you could install a wall filled with mini shelves or hooks to hold the weight of a wine bottle. This is a great way to keep all of your options in sight and a cool conversation piece.

3) Accent Ceiling

Remember, your ceiling should be looked at as your fifth wall. That does not mean you always need to something there. However, a ceiling is the best place to surprise your guests with an expected pop or color or pattern.

4) Slatted wood details with lighting

There are so many ways to incorporate texture and ambiance into your space. Check out this stunning installation below. I love how they used a 3-D wood detail and added lighting at the top and bottom.

Oh, the dinner parties that could be had in this space!

There are special paints out there that will allow you do create paint a chalkboard on your wall.

This would be great for families, such as kids room, game rooms or kitchen to keep up activities. Kids aren’t the only ones who can enjoy this detail. If you are an artist or friends with one, a chalk board wall would make for a great mural detail.

The options are endless.

Be careful, when you rub against chalk it does smudge or wear off.
