HVAC Maintenance: The Best Home Investment You’ll Make This Summer

With the temperatures rising we have spent the past few weeks discussing outdoor living such as beautiful landscapes, Al Fresco dining and ways to get your outdoor space summer time ready.

This week’s topic is not the most sexy nor exciting thing to talk about but it is an absolute necessity in your home especially during the summer months.

I was inspired after having a conversation with a coworker about their air conditioner going out in the middle of June in Atlanta’s heat.

As an interior designer, I adore beautiful finishes and finding ways to incorporate colors or patterns in a space is what I love most.

However, we all know that without a fully functioning home things like paint colors and fabrics take a backseat to the things that actually affect the function of your home.

The last thing I want is for any of you to be sitting in an 90 degree home because you didn’t take the steps to ensure that your home would summer time ready.

Below are a few helpful tips to keep your HVAC running as efficiently as possible:

Air Filters: Change out your air filters once every 3-6 months, this allows for clean air to circulate through our home easily increasing the air quality and reducing the amount of energy being used. Also, not changing out the air filters regularly could cause potentially lead to complete failure of your unit, health risks, etc.

HVAC Maintenance: Make sure to have this done twice a year (Summer & Winter)

Proactive: HVAC systems have a lifespan of 15-25 years so if your unit is old you may want to consider replacing it so that it doesn’t go out in the dead of winter

Clean Up: Do not keep clutter near your units whether they be outdoor units or indoor. Clutter causes dirt, debris, or dust which can get into your vent system

Regulate Thermostat: It is important to regulate the temperature in your home to limit the amount of energy being used by your unit. The more energy required the shorter a lifespan your units will have. Make sure to adjust the thermostat to be warmer in the summer and cooler and the winter during the times your not home or sleeping.

I realize that HVAC systems are not a fun thing for homeowners to deal with but prioritizing regular maintenance on your unit will make for a healthier home.

Plus no one likes investing in an unexpected water heater, so do your self a favor and handle your HVAC unit with care.
