Three Things You Must Incorporate In Your Basement Remodel

I don’t know about you but when I think about basements I don’t have memories of the most pleasant visuals.

I imagine a dark cold place, somewhere that items go to be forgotten, hot water tanks, and low crammed ceilings.

Brace yourself, this next image is not safe for work.

Well, I am happy to announce that basements are getting a new reputation!

Basements remodels of today are much more than storage unit and can be used for entertaining, working from home, or even exercise.

What caused the shift?

Generally speaking basements have been getting more love than they did in our childhoods but something life changing happened three years ago…

Covid.

Now I know you are all sick (no pun intended) of hearing about it BUT this is actually an incredible side effect that came out of the lockdown.

These past two years have been an adjustment for us all. Many of us spent the majority of our time in our homes. All of that time at home encouraged many people to view their homes in a whole new light.

Since the pandemic many homeowners are opting for basements that are multipurpose and fabulous!

Are you planning to renovate your basement this year? Are you looking for ideas to make your basement dreams come true?

Let’s talk about the 3 things you have got to incorporate in your basement remodel.

Kitchettes & Bars

First things first, one of the most common features in basements these days is to include a kitchenette or bar. Having a small kitchen is great for movie nights and entertaining guests because you
don’t have to run up and down the stairs every time you want a refill.

Typically these smaller kitchens include everything your main kitchen would have but paired down to less cabinets and may or may not include an oven/range.

While having a kitchenette or bar is functional in the basement it should also be beautiful.

You want to select a cool cabinet color, fun backsplash, and a couple of light fixtures. All of these items can be found at affordable price points so that you aren’t breaking the bank on your basement renovation.

Home Gyms

As we discussed the pandemic left many people stuck at home for extensive periods of time and we could not get to a local gym.

Many people have chosen to dedicate a room in their basements to an at home gym, fully stocked with weights of all sizes

or even dare I say…a Peloton machine.

If you choose to incorporate a home gym you might want to install rubber gym flooring. This is literally the same flooring the actual gyms use, it’s dense, durable, and offered in a variety of colors.

Below is a shopping list of the items you’ll want for your home gym.

Full Height Mirrors
Yoga Mats
Free Weights
Medicine Balls
Resistant Bands

Home Theater

Last but definitely not least on the list of must haves for your basement remodel are home cinemas. (fancy, right?)

Is your family big on movie nights? Do you throw epic Super Bowl parties?

Well then you should turn one of the rooms into a home theater! There is something so special about having a personal movie theater.

Again, this goes back to people being stuck at home and movie cinemas were closed.

For your theater you want to find a dark simple carpet, comfy reclining chairs, and sound proofed walls.

If you’re feeling fun you can bring in a portable popcorn maker. You might also want to store your favorite candies and add in a beverage cooler so that you have sodas or cold beer at your finger tips.

Trust me, movie nights will never be the same!
